I have had my bike up on craigslist for sale, and I just got this follow up message:
It seems too scripted to me.
What would you do?

Total scams. No legitimacy at all
DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH

Scam 100%
I include a line in my CL ads that says to include a certain word in the subject and then ignore any without that word.

Anyone offering more money than you are asking for is a scammer.

That opening line is the most common scam email ever.

Well-known scam. You’ll cash the cheque, it’ll appear to clear, and then after they’ve got your bike it’ll turn out to be a fraudulent cheque and the bank will claim the money back from your account.

Absolutely, unequivocally, 100% a scam. Literally 0% chance it is a legitimate buyer.
Any time they refer to something as “the item” or “the vehicle” instead of specifically naming it, it’s a scam.
Any time they mention cashiers’ checks, paypal, moneygram, etc, it’s a scam.
If they can’t be there to pick it up or look at it in person, it’s a scam.
If they use the phrase, “kindly provide...” it’s a scam.
Any time they offer you more $ than you asked for, it’s ABSOLUTELY a scam.
Just don’t reply to him/her/it.

“Kindly”
Just confirms the BS. No one does this.
Ignore or have fun with it.

Scam fo sho. I usually just delete these but it’s also perfectly acceptable to screw around with scammers.

I like to give them my real address, get the check, call the bank to verify it’s a scam which it has been 100% of the time and then when they contact me, I tell them I did not receive it, they will send another check for a completely different amount, most of the time not even the same name on the check.
My father in law and I had a running total of just over $7k worth of checks for a $100 item on craigslist, it was hilarious. We got one guy to send 4 checks.

This is why checks need to go the way of the dodo. Also at the supermarket, I still see older folks paying by check. Such a terrible way to do business!

This scammer doesn’t even know you’re selling a bike.
“Item”? Sigh.
